The Toronto Raptors acquire Alexis Ajinca from the Mavericks

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Raptors News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 25 January 2011 at 11:39 am

The Raptors have acquired 22-year old center Alexis Ajinca, a future 2nd round pick and cash considerations from the Mavericks for the draft rights to 25-year old forward Giorgos Printezis. Ajinca played in 10 games (2 starts) for the Mavericks this season and he averaged 7.5 minutes, 2.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. He has now played in 47 games (6 starts) in his first three years in the NBA and he is averaging 6.1 minutes, 2.3 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. The Raptors basically got this deal because they decided to release Peja Stojakovic. Giorgos Printezis is playing in Europe and he might never come to the U.S. to play. This is a good deal for the Raptors as they get a young center and more without giving anything up.

Memphis Grizzlies 100, Toronto Raptors 98

The Raptors left it all on the floor last night, just coming up a tad short in the end. Andrea Bargnani led the way for the Raptors last night with 29 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot. DeMar DeRozan also filled up the stat sheet rather impressively with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots. Jerryd Bayless was solid running the offense in the place of Jose Calderon (he has the flu). Bayless finished up with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals in 37 minutes on the floor. Julian Wright (11 points) and Amir Johnson (10 points) also pitched in for the Raptors last night. The Raptors are now 13-32 on the year.

The Toronto Raptors release Peja Stojakovic

The Raptors have released 33-year old small forward Peja Stojakovic. He only played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Raptors this season and he averaged 11.0 minutes, 10.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Stojakovic has played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Raptors & Hornets so far this year and he averaged 13.9 minutes, 8.1 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Stojakovic reportedly already has a deal in line to join the Mavericks.

The Toronto Raptors lose Leandro Barbosa for a while

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Raptors News, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Sunday 16 January 2011 at 8:44 pm

The Raptors will be without 28-year old SG/SF Leandro Barbosa for the next 1-2 weeks due to a strained right hamstring. Barbosa has played in 33 games (0 starts) for the Raptors so far this year and he is averaging 24.8 minutes, 13.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. This is going to hurt the Raptors quite a bit as Barbosa adds a lot of energy and offense off the bench.

The Toronto Raptors send Solomon Alabi to the D-League

Blogged under Comings & Goings, General, Bloglockers, Big Raptors News, Rookie Reports, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 6 January 2011 at 12:16 pm

The Raptors have sent 22-year old center Solomon Alabi to the Erie BayHawks of the D-League. Alabi has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Raptors so far this year and he is averaging 3.3 minutes, 0.0 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. Alabi is a legit 7-footer but he’s buried on the Raptors’ depth chart right now. He can’t get better by just watching games, he needs to play in them so I like this move for the Raptors.
