The Raptors just couldn’t hang with a pretty determined Mavericks’ team in Dallas last night. Andrea Bargnani led the way for the Raptors last night with 30 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 blocked shot. Leandro Barbosa also had a very solid game off the bench for the Raptors with 20 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in 31 minutes on the floor. DeMar DeRozan only shot 4 of 12 from the floor as he finished up with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Jose Calderon ran the offense and he finished up with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. The Raptors are now 1-2 on the year.

Amir Johnson has been rock solid for the Toronto Raptors so far this year

24-year old power forward Amir Johnson has stepped up this game early this year for the Raptors. Johnson has played in 2 games (both starts) for the Raptors so far this year and he is averaging 30.5 minutes, 7.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game. He is also shooting 66.7% from the floor so far this year, with most of his shots coming close to the basket. The Raptors have been known as a pretty soft team, but Johnson could be starting to change to image of the team. They hope he can keep up the good work.

The Raptors played good defense last night as they held the Pacers to only 39.5% shooting from the floor, but they couldn’t muster enough on offense to make it stand up. DeMar DeRozan (22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal) and Andrea Bargnani (21 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots led the way for the Raptors in this game. Jerryd Bayless pitched in with 13 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist in 18 minutes on the floor. The Raptors are now 1-1 on the year.

Toronto Raptors 104, Cleveland Cavaliers 96

The Raptors muscled up tonight against the Cavaliers in Cleveland. They shot 53.2% from the floor as they had 35 assists, most of them on pick and rolls. The Raptors also outrebounded the Cavs 45-37 in this game. Jose Calderon led the way for the Raptors in this game with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists as he was outstanding. DeMar DeRozan (15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal), Leonardo Barbosa (14 points, 4 assists), Ed Davis (14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocked shots in 18 minutes off the bench) also had big time games for the Raptors. Andrea Bargnani (13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists), Amir Johnson (13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 3 blocked shots) and Jerryd Bayless (10 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists) also pitched in for the Raptors tonight. The Raptors are now 1-0 on the year.

The Toronto Raptors sign Jamaal Magloire

The Raptors have signed 33-year old center Jamaal Magloire. He played in 18 games (0 starts) for the Heat last year and he averaged 8.8 minutes, 1.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Magloire has now played in 646 games (313 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 22.1 minutes, 7.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Magloire will give the Raptors some toughness and rebounding when he’s on the basketball court.
