Jay Triano might be running out of time as the Toronto Raptors’ head coach

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 17 May 2011 at 1:22 pm

52-year old head coach Jay Triano had to deal with Chris Bosh’s departure last year and the Raptors left behind didn’t play too well. The Raptors were a woeful 22-60 (26.8%) in 2010-11. Triano now has a record of 87-142 (38%) in his three years as the Raptors’ head coach. The Raptors often looked in disarray last season due to frequent changes in the starting lineup as Triano tried almost everything he could to get the team going, but, nothing seemed to work. I’m starting to think the Raptors need a new head coach to take them in a different (winning) direction.

UPDATE: (6/1/2011) - The Raptors have declined Jay Triano’s option for the 2011-12 season. So the Raptors are officially on the hunt for a new head coach.

DeMar DeRozan stepped up for the Toronto Raptors last year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 5 May 2011 at 8:22 am

The Raptors needed someone to step up to make up the points they were going to lose because of Chris Bosh’s defection, and 21-year old shooting guard DeMar DeRozan was that guy. DeRozan played in 82 games (all starts) for the Raptors last year and he averaged 34.8 minutes, 17.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He has now played in 159 games (147 starts) in his first two years with the Raptors and he is averaging 28.4 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. The next thing the Raptors need DeRozan to do is to improve his long range shooting as he has only hit 9 of 68 (13.2%) three pointers in his first two years with the team.
