Amir Johnson is stepping up for the Toronto Raptors

23-year old power forward Amir Johnson is getting hot for the Raptors as of late. In his last five games, Johnson is averaging 29.4 minutes, 14.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Johnson has made 28 of 42 shots from the floor (66.7%) during those five games. He has now played in 47 games (29 starts) for the Raptors so far this year and he is averaging 25.4 minutes, 9.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 blocked shot per game. The Raptors don’t seem to entirely trust Johnson quite yet as they always seem to make sure he doesn’t play big minutes.

The Raptors only shot 33.7% from the floor and it killed them last night. Andrea Bargnani only shot 5 of 24 from the floor last night as he finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocked shots. Ed Davis was outstanding off the bench for the Raptors last night with 15 points and 11 rebounds in only 25 minutes on the floor. Amir Johnson (11 points), Jose Calderon (10 points) and Jerryd Bayless (10 points) also pitched in for the Raptors last night. The Raptors are now 13-35 on the year.

The Raptors didn’t play any D in this game as the Bucks shot 55.3% from the floor and that did them in last night. Amir Johnson led the way for the Raptors last night with 24 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Andrea Bargnani pitched in with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist last night. Jose Calderon did a good job of running the offense as he finished up with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 10 assists and 2 steals. DeMar DeRozan (11 points), Sonny Weems (10 points) and Alexis Ajinca (10 points) all pitched in for the Raptors last night. The Raptors are now 13-34 on the year.

The Raptors were outrebounded 43-33 last night and they were outscored 57-44 in the second half last night which explains to home loss. DeMar DeRozan led the way for the Raptors last night with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Andrea Bargnani filled up the stat sheet with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocked shots. Amir Johnson also had a good game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 blocked shots in 35 minutes on the floor. The Raptors are now 13-33 on the year.

The Toronto Raptors release Sundiata Gaines

The Raptors have released 24-year old shooting guard Sundiata Gaines. Gaines played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Raptors and he averaged 8.1 minutes, 2.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. His shooting did him in as he only made 7 of 22 shots (31.8%) from the floor with the Raptors. The Raptors won’t miss Gaines much, if at all the rest of the year.
